Well, if you haven’t gotten it by now, the general theme, thus far, for the Recipes I put up is kind of a Barbecue/Picnic genre. I’m not sure why that has been, maybe I’m building to something. I guess we’ll see when I get there.
Anyway, one thing that every Barbecue or Picnic should have is a nice fresh salad. So, here we go with that.
Green Salad
Ingredients:
- 1 large head of Romaine Lettuce
- 1 small head Red Cabbage
- 1 1/2 cups diced of Celery
- 2 sliced Radish
- 1/4 cup Grated Carrot
- 3 strips Bacon
- 1 cup Olive Oil
- 4 Tbsp Balsamic Vinegar
Implements of Destruction:
- Large Salad Bowl
- Cutting Board
- Sharp Knife
- Microwave
- Measuring Cup
- Fork
- Large Spoon
Instructions:
First take you Large head of Romaine Lettuce and chop off the heel (the inedible “bottom” part.) Core the Lettuce (take out the really light green almost yellow leaves in the middle.) Alright, you should only have good edible tasty Romaine left, take that and chop it into squares about 1-2 inches per side. The easiest way to do this is to slice the head across first and then slice long ways. When you’re done with that put the Romaine into the Large Bowl.
Now take the small head of cabbage and core it (for cabbage coring means cutting out the heel and the core at the same time, usually by cutting a cone or pyramid shape out of the bottom.) Slice the cabbage in thin strips from top to bottom, try for 1/8th of an inch or so if you can. Add the strips to the bowl, but throw out the “heels” just like you would a loaf of bread.
Add the Celery, Radish, and Carrot to the bowl, and mix all greens thoroughly.
Now take your Bacon strips, wrap them in some paper towels and toss them in the Microwave for 3 minutes. Let the bacon cool for about 45 seconds and then put the microwave on for 2 more minutes. This should get the bacon nice and crispy, which is the goal. Now, crush the bacon into bits, you might want to just use the paper towels you already cooked them in. Toss them into the salad bowl.
Put the Olive Oil and the Balsamic Vinegar into the Measuring Cup. Whisk thoroughly with the fork until the two items are as mixed as possible. Pour out over the back of the spoon across the contents of the bowl. Toss all the ingredients of the bowl together until everything is, again, thoroughly mixed and serve.
