Well, I figured we already have at least one thing to eat so now would be a good time to break out the drinks. Having once been a bartender, I remember a couple of good drink recipes that will go well with our BBQ fare.
Sangria
Ingredients:
2 bottles red wine (I prefer Shiraz for this, but choose your own)
2 wedged lemons
2 wedged oranges
2 wedged limes
1/2 cup sugar
Orange Juice (to taste)
1/2 cup gin
2 cups sliced berries (I prefer fresh, but substitute frozen as available.)
1 can pineapple slices with juice. (8oz – 1oz can)
2pt Ginger Ale
Implements of Destruction:
1 large pitcher or cauldron
1 large spoon (a broomstick will work if you’re feeling witchy with your cauldron)
lots of ice
Directions:
Go ahead and pour the wine into the big watertight thing. Then squeeze all the citrus fruits into there too. Drop the squeezed wedges (preferably without the seeds) into the wine. Add the pineapple and the sugar. Stir till the sugar dissolves while adding the gin and orange juice. (This is where the “to taste” comes in.) Chill for 12 hours. Add ginger ale and berries and serve. If you want to make and drink this right now, use chilled red wine and serve over ice. You may need to adjust the amounts for taste.
For an extra kick, add a teaspoon of pepper and a dash of Tabasco© sauce.
